De'Aaron Fox to undergo season-ending surgery on left hand
Spurs guard De'Aaron Fox to miss the rest of the regular season to undergo left hand surgery.
San Antonio Spurs star De’Aaron Fox, who the Spurs acquired during the NBA’s trade deadline week, will undergo season-ending surgery on Tuesday to repair a tendon injury in his left pinkie.
Fox suffered the injury during training camp in October with the Sacramento Kings and he’s played through it all season. The decision to undergo the surgery was to prioritize his recovery process and to build offseason chemistry.
The eighth-year guard played 62 games this season, 45 with the Kings, and 17 with the Spurs. He averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds on shooting splits of .446/.274/.819. He holds the NBA’s highest-scoring game this season with 60 points on Nov. 15 in a 130-126 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fox recorded his best game as a Spur on Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks with 32 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists in a 126-116 victory.
The Spurs who were already without head coach Gregg Popovich and center Victor Wembanyama now add Fox to the list of season-ending injuries.
Fox hinted that the surgery could happen when the Spurs travel to Los Angeles for a game with the Los Angles Lakers on Mar. 17 after a loss to the Sacramento Kings. San Antonio takes on the Hornets on Friday and the Pelicans on Saturday. Fox will miss both of those games and his surgery will take place on Tuesday.
