San Antonio Spurs placed in Group C for 2025 Emirates Cup
San Antonio heads to competition as part of this year's group C lineup.
The San Antonio Spurs were named to Group C for the Emirates NBA Cup (formerly known as the NBA In-Season Tournament). This is the second time in three seasons the Spurs were named to Group C.
San Antonio was randomly selected for Group C. Other teams selected for the group are the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets.
In its inaugural tournament, the Spurs went 0-4 in the group stage and did not move on to the elimination stage. Last season they split their games in the group stage going 2-2, and they did not advance to the elimination stage for the second straight year.
The Spurs have one of the toughest paths to reach the elimination stage, as three out of their four opponents reached the postseason last year, and both the Rockets and Nuggets have had great off-seasons. Houston made arguably the biggest move this summer by trading for 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant. They signed Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year contract, and they also acquired Clint Capela as part of the Durant trade, which became the largest trade in NBA history, featuring seven teams.
The Nuggets beefed up their depth by signing Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr., and they also acquired Cameron Johnson from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr.
The Warriors are running out their first full season of the Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler duo. They still have young rising pieces like Moses Moody, Brandin Podzimski, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and potentially Jonathan Kuminga, who’s still exploring his options as a restricted free agent.
The Trail Blazers added Chinese prospect Hansen Yang in the NBA Draft, and they traded for Jrue Holiday in a move that sent Anfernee Simons to the Boston Celtics.
The Emirates NBA Cup begins on October 31 and runs to November 28. No schedule is available for the tournament at this time, but all games will be nationally televised.
