SPURadically Speaking: Exclusive interview with ‘Spurs Centel’
Lifting the veil behind the Madness of “Spurs Centel”
NBA Centel (NC) is a social media account created as a satirical take on NBA Central, which itself has been criticized for its accuracy in reporting. The parody account often posts outrageously fake basketball news, quotes, and rumors, frequently leading to confusion or amusement among followers who might mistake it for real news.
The impact of NBA Centel reached a new level when Merriam-Webster humorously acknowledged the term "Centel'd," highlighting its cultural impact into the basketball and social media lexicon. This recognition underscores the account's influence within the NBA community on the social media platform, X.
NBA Centel recently spoke with Madeline Hill of Impersonal Foul to provide insight into the man behind the parody. One sentiment that Centel relayed to Madeline, which you can read Here.
“If I do end up getting suspended, I hope to leave a legacy for other troll accounts to pick up where I left off.” -NBA Centel
NC has certainly inspired a new movement of Centel accounts, which are more than just team-friendly satire and parody entertainment. San Antonio has officially entered the world of Centel now that a new account, aptly named “Spurs Centel” (SC) has begun to make its mark across social media.
Spurs Centel may hinge on the reputation of parody and satire. However, SC is determined to show Spurs fans he's more than a spoof account. We were able to interview SC for an inside look on the individual behind the account.
Alex (KDOT): What was the reason for the creation of Spurs Centel?
SC: My father was a comedian, I won't go into details, but he's well-known; we lived to make one another laugh daily. Unfortunately, he passed away last year, and I was heartbroken; the only parent I had ever known was gone. When I created Spurs Centel I just wanted to give Spurs fans a brighter side of entertainment and laughter. I understand being a Spurs fan may not be easy at times, which is why I wanted to provide an escape on social media. Unfortunately, certain popular Spurs accounts feel like shunning one of their own.
KDOT: How so?
SC: When I decided to create Spurs Centel, there was (a certain account) that decided to screenshot my first post and told fellow Spurs fans he was blocking me, and his fellow mutuals decided to follow along. I'm not here to become a verified account and I certainly am not here to make a penny off of my favorite team.
(That particular account) is an official spin-off of (another popular social media brand), and yet I still supported his new partnership; he (allegedly) makes money on X off the San Antonio Spurs name but to each their own. I just say don't be quick to make rash decisions at the end of the day I am still a Spurs fan and I'm only here to bring another side to content creating.
KDOT: Do you have a favorite Spurs memory?
SC: The 2003 Spurs Championship run was my favorite memory, it was a collective group that understood the emphasis of defense. A cast of veterans in the twilight of their careers we're able to play pivotal roles for the Spurs Championship run. My favorite player from that run was Stephen Jackson because he brought that toughness and tenacity to a team in need of an edge.
KDOT: What is your ultimate goal for Spurs Centel?
SC: I just want to be an alternative or an escape for Spurs fans who may be having bad days and just want to log into X to laugh at one of my parody posts. I also want to continue to be a part of the Centel Universe. Believe it or not, we have over 50 Centel accounts in our group chat, and I'm happy to be a part of the family.
KDOT: What's an interesting fact about the person behind Spurs Centel?
SC: Ricky Starks (AEW Professional Wrestler) is one of my best friends, I've known Pretty Ricky for about 13 years. I was also in attendance with Ricky when Cody Rhodes beat Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.
KDOT: Who's your favorite NBA Player?
SC: I'm a very passionate San Antonio Spurs fan which means my favorite player is Tim Duncan. He is underappreciated when it comes to the legacy he built in his NBA career. If anyone has anything negative to say about Tim Duncan I need to have a civil conversation with them.
KDOT: If you can talk to your father right now, what would you say to him?
SC: I miss you, Pop; I hope I made you very proud of the man I have become since you have been gone. I'm Spurs Centel now, Pop; it's time to share the wealth of joy and laughter that you blessed me with in life. Until I see you again, Pop, I would like to say I love you and miss you very much. This is just the beginning of Spurs Centel, and I can't wait until I see you again.
KDOT: Thank you very much for your time, Spurs Centel. It was a great conversation.
SC: Thank you, KDot, and congratulations to you on your venture with SPURFECT and TODtv. Be sure to follow this man because he has some great ventures in the works for Spurs and NBA fans.

Authors note:
I would like to thank my special guest, Spurs Centel, and Carolina Teague, Editor-In-Chief of for allowing me the opportunity to try something new.
The premise of my latest article was to provide insight into the people behind satire and parody accounts; just because their content is fictional, it doesn't mean their life story is made from false tales.
Spurs Centel lost his father and the way he chose to honor him is by sharing the joy and laughter with others who are in need.
